Cam Bleck

Filmmaker, photographer, and wood sculptor

Paris, France

I never set out to be a photographer, or a painter, or anything with a title. I just started making things with whatever was around, and at some point that just became the whole approach - to make something.

I rarely know what I'm making until I'm already in it. It's a lot like jazz: "When you hit a wrong note, it's the next one that makes it good or bad." That's basically my whole process, over and over, until something's finished.

Because of that, my work tends to say more about how I was feeling than what I was thinking. It's closer to a candle burning — the wax that drips down is just what's left over from it. It's like life being lived; that's what my pieces are to me.

Cameron Bleck is an American artist based in Paris - a filmmaker, photographer, and wood sculptor. He learned woodworking in his father's workshop, and draws inspiration from his grandfather's paintings, the sculptures of Isamu Noguchi, and simple observation.

His recent exhibitions include the Lake Forest Art Fair, Chicago (2023 and 2025), where he received the Award of Excellence in Wood, and L'Âme de la Nature at CENTQUATRE-Paris.
